From the Bale Creek Allen Gallery announcement:
The Bale Creek Allen Gallery is pleased to present LA Women a group show of six female artists from Los Angeles whose work embraces such diverse themes as fantasy, myth, dreams, fairytales, race and horror. This exhibition reflects only a minuscule group of artists working in Los Angeles today, however it embodies the general spirit of the LA female artist, one who searches, transforms and resists the status quo of her everyday world. Participating artists: Tami Demaree, Tanya Haden, Bettina Hubby, Alexia Lewis, Shelli Tollman, Marnie Weber.
Hubby on her series:
“How do I want to feel when I look at myself? How do I want others to feel when they see me? Joy would be a nice outcome. What makes me and others potentially joyous? Looking at the beauty in and of animals is one possibility. I did a photo shoot of myself jumping in an idyllic setting, and then digitally added cats, dogs, kangaroos, birds, and butterflies as my jumping companions. As I look at these images, my subconscious mind associates me with the animals. Joy may result. It's not-so subliminal advertising.”
