Painting is an important focus of Hubby’s studio practice and emphasizes text-based compositions on canvas, including her ongoings series Mantras, Inside Job, and most recently, Switchwords.

Hubby on her paintings:

When I conceived of the most recent text works, I knew they had to exist as paintings.  Paint as a medium was essential—the combination of its texture and vibrancy effects the viewer in a manner that another could not. The autosuggestion of affirmative words painted in neon orange on tan linen creates a palpable effect on one’s perception— even when you’re not looking directly at the work. Quantum science proves everything is vibrating, and these works emphasize and play with that fact. The high vibration colors positioned with the aspirational words are meant to penetrate and take hold of the subconscious mind, hijacking the monkey mind, and elevating self-talk.
